White ink is not thick enough on my DTF print

In the context of direct-to-film (DTF) printing, three key aspects must be considered.

Cause:

  • Improper maintenance of DTF equipment.

  • Printer has been idle for more than 3 days.

  • Printhead might be missing nozzles.

  • Lower fluency of DTF white ink compared to color inks, requiring agitation of the white ink before printing. Additionally, check for air in the ink tube and damper.

  • RIP software settings may have been changed ( white ink limit 1 - 100% )

Solution:

  • Step 1: Conduct a test print / nozzle check to assess the status of the print head (refer to the provided image).

  • Step 2: Agitate white ink with the recirculation knob in the back of your Impact USA printer.

  • Step 3: Inspect the white ink dampers and ink tube for air. If present, perform a thorough cleaning.

  • Step 4: If cleaning is unsuccessful you can run a LOAD INK from PrintEXP for 20 seconds.

  • Step 5: In the software, select the appropriate limit and increase the size of the white ink load.

  • Step 6: If you are unable to recover missing nozzles you can soak the head in DTF cleaning solution for 24 hours.

Precaution:

  • Regularly maintain and wet cap your Impact USA  DTF printer.

  • Periodically inspect the printhead for missing nozzles to prevent printing issues.

  • Shake the white ink bottle before printing to maintain optimal fluency.

  • Routinely check for air in the ink tube and damper to avoid disruptions in the printing process.
